Anamnisi coffee shop chania

An exciting new outreach project was launched in Chania town on Saturday 13 June.

Ανάμνηση ( pronounced Anamnisi) is a Christian Coffee Shop and Drop-in Centre in the heart of Chania town centre.  It is located on the corner of Ionias and  Manousogiannakidon Streets Streets, close to the KTEL Bus Station and just two blocks from Skalidi, the main shopping street. (See map). Besides the coffee shop, the centre has a meeting room in the basement and toilet/ shower facilities at mezzanine level.

The name ” Anamnisi” comes from Isaiah 26 verse 8 and is the Greek word for ” renown”.

“….we wait for You, Your name and renown are the desire of our hearts”.

The Vision for the Centre

The vision for the Centre is that it will become a place to which visitors will be attracted and want to linger because they sense there the Lord’s presence.  The Centre will be staffed by local Christians who will be there to serve and talk with visitors and share the Gospel in a gentle, no intrusive way, with those who are seeking.

There is a small, equipped playroom which it is hoped will attract parents with small children.  A mothers and toddlers group is planned.  The downstairs meeting room will be used for small Christian gatherings, for prayer and for teaching.

An Answer to Prayer

Ανάμνηση meetingThe Centre is an answer to prayer for its leaders, Elias and Nelly Tsartsampalidis.  The couple moved to Crete from Athens in 2014 with a passion to reach out to ordinary Greeks, particularly young people and young families, with the Good News of Jesus. They did not know quite how God was going to use them, but then they were given the vision of a coffee shop meeting place.  With the support of Hellenic Ministries, a Christian missionary organisation based in Athens,  and believers from South Africa, the vision has become a reality.  They found the vacant shop premises in March. Since then it has been completely renovated with the help of volunteers to become an attractive, modern venue.’

At the launch event on Saturday 13th June Elias shared shared his testimony of how the Lord had met him and why he had committed his life to serving Him.  He had found Jesus at a time of crisis in his own life through the love and persistence of a dear friend.  He said “My prayer is that Anamnisi will be like a good friend to the people of Chania and they too will discover a hope and a future through a relationship with Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour.”
